1~ Birth control AND condoms. Prevents pregnancy AND STD.
2~ Your health teacher is wrong. Anytime you have unprotected sex you run the risk of getting pregnant. Even when you are on your period.
Good luck I hope this helps.

FIRST!!! there is never a safe time... you can always get pregnant. I have the most even on time cycle... but got pregnant in the middle of my period!!! Now it is less likely for the first 4 days after your period and the 3 days before your next planned period.
YOU CAN GET PREGNANT WHEN EVER YOU HAVE SEX!!!
Now... if you do have sex, i suggest first condoms.... ones that fit properly, and never double bag, dont use two at the same time... it can actually cause the condom to break easyier. Second The pill or patch is a great way to prevent it, but if it is not available then i suggest spermisides... not just the kind on the condom, even though it helps, you should acutlaly get a seperate bottle, or even a "sponge" that comes with it. Easy to use, safe, and very effective. Now of course not having sex in the first place would be the best way to not get pregnant, unless your Mary from the bible, but you just need to rememeber to be responsable. Good luck, and watch out for overwhelming lust or "lets do it naked"(without a condom) not smart!!! Just stay smart and you'll most likely stay baby free for as long as you wish!

The best precaution is to not have sex!!
Otherwise I would be on birth control such as the pill... AND use a condom as well!!
And for the second question.. I don't know why your health teacher would tell you that. It is not true. No matter what sperm can live inside you for up to 3 days and so even if you have sex during that time, they still have the possibility of traveling up there and fertalizing the egg later!

I dont agree with any of the women that have answered you!!! Of course the pill and condums are your best precautions to not becoming pregnant. But these women have no back up for what they are saying I do!! Its called Biology!! techniclly you can only get pregnant on ONE day during your 28 day cycle. Now there is exceptions to that also. Sperm can last up to 48hrs in your cervix, which means if you have sex a couple of days before your 'day' the sperm can stay in you and you can still get pregnant. I am 100% on this. But unless you know your cycle to the dot you cant tell what day it is. Scientist say in a 'regular' cycle it is the 13th day of your cycle(but keep in mind how long sperm can last, so you can get pregnant on the 11th, 12th, and13th day). Talk to a Biology teacher or look it up on the web.

Best precautions: birth contol (the pill and a condom), It's rare to get pregnant while the woman is having her period. It's certain you won't get pregnant if you're alone.
