my mother-in-law says that "flipping" my baby forward 3 times will change her sleeping pattern so that she sleeps more at night and is awake during the day. but I'm not so sure. I'm afraid that it might not be safe to do so, and not even really sure if I believe that it will work. so if anyone has heard of it or tried it themselves please let me know, and if it even works.

i never heard of that...i don't think that is safe..the only way to get your baby to sleep at night..or at least the way i did it...was when my daughter was 3 months old i made her a little bit of infant cereal and a bottle...fed her the cereal and then fed her the bottle...that kept her tummy full and slept all night

That does not sound safe at all.

You may as well shake her head around like a rag doll! Maybe that's why she thinks it makes them sleep. She's given kids concussions.

Besides, even if it was safe, it won't work. Humans are naturally polyphasic (sleeping and waking several times during a day), not monophasic (only sleeping once per day) as adults are forced to be. Babies cannot be 'changed over' to monophasic sleep. It's impossible. Later on, toddlers can become biphasic (sleeping and waking twice), and even later, children become monophasic because that's what society is pressuring them to do. Research has shown that polyphasic adult sleepers are healthier. Why would you want to take that away from your baby even if it did work?

I'd tell her the baby can sleep however she wants. And DO NOT let her do that while she's babysitting.

That sounds like an old wives tale. I have never heard of doing that and agree with you that it sounds unsafe. It took me a couple of days to straighten out my daughters sleep pattern (she is 4 months now and sleeps through the night). You have to rough it for a couple of days and just do everything you can to keep the baby up during the day. Good luck!

Never heard of flipping a baby and it doesnt sound like a good thing to do.

Newborns are usually nocturnal. Their sleep patterns will change naturally in a few weeks- you dont need to do anything but give baby time.

If you want to put your baby to sleep in 20 seconds you must get the "Instant Baby Sleep" MP3 sound track. Here is their official web-site: http://www.instantbabysleep.net

The sound track gently produces energy over the full human hearing spectrum with an embedded pulse that gently eases the brain to the Alpha state well known for drowsiness and sleep induction.

That's so funny. My daughter had her days and nights mixed up.

I can't tell you how many people "flipped" her.

Nothing worked for her...she stayed like that until she was like 3 months.

My granddaughter (her daughter) is 5 days old, and has her days and nights mixed up too.

I won't be "flipping" her, but I think it's great that my little Mariah is doing the same thing to her mommy, as her mommy did to me !!!

Good luck and congrats on your new edition.

They grow SO fast... love her... no matter what time she's up.

I think it would probably scare the poor child more than helping it... you just need to be quieter at night and be louder during the day... just treat her with lights too... more light during the day, and less at night... start now and it will be easyier later... Congrats!!!

I have heard of something similar to what you are talking about... but I really dont think it will work.... I guess it could be worth a try, just be careful.

I can't imagine something like that working. It's probably an old wive's tale. If the baby's sleep pattern did change, it was strictly coincidence.

Babys don't sleep through the night on average until about 3-6m. So no I do not believe it will work.
