St. Nick aka Santa has a guard I guess you would call it, but he is suppost to travel with Santa to ward away evil.
Does anyone know what his name is?
I know it starts with a K.
Anyone?

Santa has elves who work in his (sweat shop) toy factory at the North Pole. No one travels with Santa; he manages to make his Christmas Eve rounds to every believer's nook and cranny around the world in a single night!
Maybe you're thinking of St. Nicolas or Sinter Klaas (in The Netherlands and Belgium) who is modeled on the actual saint, wears a bishop's red robes and mitre, rides a white horse and travels with a companion Zwart Piet (or Black Pete) who stuffs naughty children in his burlap bag and takes them away with him to Spain (as punishment...wintering in sunny Spain is real punishment, I'd say!).
I've never heard of any kind of guard accompanying any variation on the Santa theme.

In German folklore Santa has this sidekick. His name is "Knecht Ruprecht". Knecht means servant, even slave. As I remember it he wasn't his guard, but he came along with St. Nick, bringing his own sack in which he stuffed the kids that hadn't been nice, carrying them off. My friend got stuffed in Knecht Ruprecht's sack - that poor kid was scared to death!!! He was released after much pleading, claiming to mend his ways, which he actually did.
As to physical appearance, as jolly and red & white as St. Nick is, Knecht Ruprecht is more of a drab-clothed, gruff looking dude, nothing you'd want to run into in a back alley.
