I was three days overdue with my son. I was sure he wasn't coming out. The Dr. will induce usually when you're a week late. I did something to help bring him along starting the second day. I did nipple stimulation. You rub the aereola for 5 minutes per nipple, per hour. If you get a contraction stop for an hour. I did it for about 8 hours and went into labor. Another friend of mine did it off and on for two days before it worked on her. Your body has to be ready to, but at least its an idea.

Technically a birth is considered term anywhere from 37-42 wks. Some women ovulate much later than others so your body may not be ready to give birth yet. Only 5% of women give birth on their due dates. Most doctors and CNM's are so worried about being sued that they will want you to be induced ASAP. You do not have to be induced if you don't want to be. I know you are impatient for the baby to be born but here are some things to keep in mind. When the baby is ready to be born it sends out chemical signals to the placenta which in turn starts your labor. These same chemicals also help the baby's organs to fully mature in preparation for birth. So babies born by induction tend to have more problems breathing and some even need to go to NICU. Inductions also make for terrible labors. Pitocin can cause you to have non stop contractions and it can also cause baby to go into distress. You have a much higher chance of having a c-section too when induced. So be patient, get your rest, and enjoy these last days or hours before you see your little one face to face. The baby will come at just the right time and you'll forget all about the wait.

your doc will wait usually up to 42 weeks, if baby is fine. He may push it to 43, but most deliver between 41-42. Being halfway thin is a good start, i do believe he is referring to the amount of efacement that your cervix is doing.... it gets thins and slowly opens.... sometimes doing both at the same time, sometimes efacing first, then opening. I wouldnt worry about only being dialated one.... once you get to 75% effaced, you've got a great chance of the cervix dialating much more and much faster. I went from one to four cent. in 24 hours. Good luck!!!

Your doctor should be the one telling you that. Every country and some states have different protocols about inducing pregnancy after the due date. Make an appointment with your doctor and ask them how long after the due date it will be before you are induced. Usually maximum - the most they can let it go over is 10days.

Maybe you should just ask the doctor to induce.... or try some home induction methods.
Red Raspberry leaf tea 6 times a day
Alot of walking
Sex... semen can ripen the cervix faster
Nipple stimulation... Use a breast pump for an hour several times a day
Black or blue cohosh but only in the recomended dosage

Typically 1st births are around 40 weeks or after. Usually, doctors don't let you carry the baby past 42 weeks because the baby will be too large, and your placenta will start to lose its ability to function properly. Thus, your doctor will probably induce you before then...if you haven't delivered yet. You should really consult your doctor so that he/she understands your concern and gives you the proper care and information you need.

It's up to your doctor. I've had friends induced just a couple days after their due date. Do you want to be induced? It's not fun. It's much more comfortable to wait awhile (at least during labor it's more comfortable). Your water could break tonight and end your concerns. Good luck. Now, go have sex and walk around the block.

I was there too. About 8 years ago. I carried her to 42 weeks. Boy how-die was I glad when my doctor finally induced. It depends on the doctor and it depends on your situation. If things look fine with you and the baby they will let it continue. But if things look bad they will induce. Good luck and look on the bright side. The baby will be born within 2 weeks. Congrats
