It is a computer which contains an operating system such as Windows 2000 or 2003 Server running IIS. Or...a Linux computer running Apache....ultimately, it is a computer that contains the source of one or many web sites for all to see.

A web server hosts the specific websites you see on the web. It is a computer that contains "hosting" or "server" software that carries the ability for other people around the world to get information of which you / or a webmaster wishes to host for the rest of the world (with a computer and access the internet) to see.
