recently a repair man was working on a gas smell in my oven. he determined it was just a pilot that needed to be relite. okay now my oven doesn't work no more. i remembered he had told me he turned off the gas for me. how would i turn it back on. i have tried to lite the pilot on the oven a dozen times without any luck. it's a kenmore model.

thing that sucks about pilot lights in ovens is it is confines space and when the pilot light goes out it builds up gas inside the oven, one spark when you open it and you'll find yourself missing an eyebrow or two.

there is most likely a valve directly behind the oven, pull the oven out just a little ways and on the wall you may see a (usualy yellow) handle or knob turn it on and be carefull about lighting the pilot light.

i prefer the ovens that electricaly ignite the gas when its needed as you dont need to worry about pilot lights going out or the need to pay for gas when the oven isnt being used

Like the other person said, there should be a cut off valve behind the stove if the plumbing is to code. If not, there'd be one on the oven.
