2006 Finalists- Darren McFadden, Troy Smith, Brady Quinn
(There are only 3)

The last two years there have been 3 finalists, when did they trim the number down?

They do not bring in all five is #4 and #5 were so far down in the voting it would be a waste of there time. This year they were not realistic candidates.

It is always based on vote distribution. Last year there were 3 as well and Weis made a big fuss about Brady not being invited.

5 were invited the year before (my first link below). They included the winner Matt Leinhart, and Reggie Bush, Adrian Peterson, Jason White, and Alex Smith.

In 2003 there were 4 finalists, eventual winner Jason White, as well as runnerup Larry Fitzgerald, Eli Manning, and Chris Perry.

2002 also had 5 finalists (Willis McGahee, Ken Dorsey, Larry Johnson, Brad Banks, and CArson Palmer the winner).

So it changes year to year
