Put the thought in your mind of "own your money, don't let your money own you". Make conscience choices of what to or not to buy. There's another expression . . . " People are only going to treat you the way you let them treat you ". That phrase applied here also is that money is money and it's only going to control you (you being a slave) only to the point that you let it. Life is free, it costs nothing. Aside from basic foundations of ones life, life is really free. Walk out your front door and soak up the scenery, conversation, notice what often goes unnoticed, listen what others block out. . . re-train you heart and mind to SEE differently.

Develop good friendships with people. Find ways to enjoy life, such as looking at beautiful sunsets. Go to museums and free events where you can enjoy culture without spending money. Borrow books from the library or use the internet to expand your mind and learn about things. Set goals for your life that don't revolve around acquiring things.
Kudos to Chris in Columbia for using the expression "albatross around your neck" which is a reference to poetry.

Wow, good question. Do you make enough to just work 40 hours and no more? So that you can have at least that much time off??? Can you cut back on things like eating out , drinking, etc. and not spend as much per week?

Remember , it's not just how much you make but it is how much you spend, TOO! Learn to be satisfied with simpler things in life that money does not buy and try to save some money instead of spending it all, too. Develop good friendships with people who are not all about money, too.!

Here my ten cents worth, Money is important for survival and goods you to get by day to day, yet I understand some people are content making 20k a year no more, and only want to work their 40 hours because they have family, and friends to pass the time, and just want to enjoy life, and not kill the mind and body for the almighty dollar. Also, some people enjoy the material luxuries money got to offer, so they are willing to go to school, work 80 hour weeks. Money made after a certain point has diminshed ultity after a certain point, but people become habitated to making more so they spend more also. Its economics is a study of human behavoiur im no expert. Live life like you want too you happy making next to nothing, and enjoying the simplier im all for ya, and the people wants to add Jaguars, and Porcshes to thier classic car collection. One thing, ethics of making money varies by personality, and culutral upbringing too. Slave to money is up to the indivivual not society, not the corporate its your discision.

The answer is simple but often not acceptable to many....and the answer is that you live within your means. You figure out how much you take home, set a budget for yourself, and you stick to that budget. Period.

I bet at least 70% of the population is living beyond their means because they feel they deserve it. I am impressed that you understand the situation for what it really is, that instead of feeling "free", the thought of paying back what you owe is like an albatross around your neck. And 70% of the population will have their day of reckoning in due time.

Do what the president does. Lie, cheat and steal. If you can learn to do it without guilt as he and his supporters do, you will find happiness.

Look at Oliver North, not very smart but smart enough to steal and lie his way to riches just by learning to look sincere. Do what he and Bush do, practice looking sincere in front of a mirror while telling lies.

Develop a relationship with God.

1. Read the Bible daily
2. Pray daily
3. Attend church
4. Tithe

Then you will become a happier person and miracles will happen in your life and you will begin to receive God's blessings.

God can do for you in one day what someone could struggle a lifetime to attain.

The question is a easy one, but to put it into practice is hard. Create good energy for yourself by doing what's right. Seek to serve others and the positive energies that you create today will be your tomorrow's blessing. Don't focus on the money part it will materialize by itself.

Take your money and move to Mexico...

You'll never survive in Bush land with that attitude! He has sadly made mincemeat of us all!
