I believe that when you say gills you mean the gill flaps on the sides of the shark's head.

As we know, gills are the fleshy, fingerlike projections with a lot of capilaries for exchanging oxygen and carbon dioxide, are usually not visible. The gill flaps allow water to pass over the gills, going through the mouth, over the gills, and out the flaps.

If you were to sew up all but two flaps, than water would only be able to go through those two flaps, and (most) sharks need to move to have water move past their gills. Basically, a shark with it's gill flaps sewn up would go slower, because after a certain speed the amount of oxygen the shark gets wouldn't be enough for it to keep it's speed up (imagine running while breathing through a straw; you could do it for a while, but eventually you'd be too out of breath and need to stop).

So, a shark with sewn gill flaps wouldn't be able to move as fast as a normal shark, and therefore wouldn't be able to compete with a normal shark, so it would probalby not get enough food and die.

The shark would be really angry,
But seriosly, sharks need their gills to breathe. They take in oxygen from the water when moving, so sewing up two of the gills would lessen the amount of O2 (or oxygen) the shark reiceved. I'm thinking this would lead to an earlier death.

You'd have a *very* pissed off shark that would probably die in some fairly short period of time.
