The issue primarily is who can accomplish two jobs, come to prominence in their party, and then beat the other party's candidate. One of the things that makes female and minority candidates so interesting is that their popularity may appeal to those of their group, transcending party lines. Based on this rational I believe a woman would become the president before a man from a minority ethnic background would. This is because minority ethnic groups are already lumped into the democratic party making any swing over vote insignificant (unless the candidate was a republican, however as we saw with Clarence Thomas minority conservatives are often ostracized.) This seems to say that a woman, with huge sway from woman voters in the other party would be able to win a general election.

Who knows but I think we likely to see a minority male president before we see a woman. I think Barrack may run in 2008 or 2012 , if he were to wait till 2012 it would give him some more experience and more people might vote for him. With that said I don’t think it be that long before we will see a female president or minority probably with in the next 20 years.

Purely opinion based on probability, I would think a male minority would have better odds at becoming president of the US. Personally, I just think we are about to enter 2007, and the fact that there are still enough people in the nation who would "refuse" either of those groups into office is rather rediculous. But we are a nation where we are driven by our pride and egos, and because of that, we would still think a man in the office would have more "power" than a woman would.
For the record, I'm just saying that in a sense of the nation as a whole.. I think if the right person comes along, regardless of their skin or sex, let's vote them in!

Depends on which ethnicity the minority is from and also the ethnicity of the female canidate.
It is my opinion, and I honestly believe, that America would elect a white female canidate over a minority male canidate, especially a black man.
But, I also believe that America would elect a black man (B. Obama) before electing a black woman (C. Rice).
(That is given those are the only two choices they have on the election ballots, Whoa!!!!!!!!)
I also believe that America would elect a white female canidate (perhaps H. Clinton) over a black woman (lets see... C. Rice).
But in most cases if it is a white female canidate running against any minority (male or female) I think she would win.
But if the male minority canidate it light enough he might have a chance. Maybe some one of Asian, Spanish, Native American, etc decent.
It is sad, but unfortunantly true this is the society we live in. We haven't bypassed discrimination (even racisim for some people), i.e still the need for Affirmative Action.
If it was Hillary Clinton against Barack Obama; I believe Hillary would win. She would win because of her on dedication to America of course, her background and experience, because we love Bill Clinton, and finally because of her ethnicity and majority status compared to that of a Barack Obama and his minority status.
And all this is given our voting turnout continues in the current pattern, if the minority would turnout and actually vote or even just have more of a voting turnout in general for both minority and majority there might be a chance at a different outcome.
ONLY MY OPINION, FROM MY EXPERIENCES OF LIFE IN AMERICA

I am in favour of more participation by minorities and women, but it is not so important that the President is of a certain race or gender. Policies are more important. I saw an interview with Baraka and wasn't impressed. He is just too nice a guy without leadership skills and vision. I would like him perhaps as a Secretary of State. Condoleeza Rice is a Republican and is the mastermind behind the foreign policy towards Afghanistan and Iraq. Not my cup of tea, though I do admire her success and stature.
The biggest issue facing the U.S. is how foreign and military policies have taken over the domestic agenda. Bush stole the domestic agenda and hid it in a bunker somewhere. Americans are not voting on American issues, but on foreign issues. It is a case of opening up Pandora's Box. Now you get to find a way to close it up.

2 views... it could be the minority male because Obama is a very strong candidate. it could be a woman because women are a HUGE voting block. If hilary runs it will be a contest between getting the women to the poles vs. the red state christian jerks who turn out for the Bush people...

Frankly, I think a woman would become president first. Sadly, there is still a LOT of racism in this country. While although many people are sexist as well, I don;t think people actually hate others based on their gender, while there are still many ignorant people who hate simply because of someones race.

that's a hard one
one one hand you have a lot of people that are racist so they wouldn't vote for a minority
one the other hand you also have a lot of people that are sexist so they wont vote for a woman.
But I think a white woman might have a better chance then a minority male.
