My sister told me this theory too when I was little and when I told others they looked at me like I had three heads.
I think it could hold true on both accounts:If it gets lodged in your throat air can still get through thus letting you NOT die of asphyxiation AND it is shaped like a lifesaver.
But I am blonde too!
