My cousin lives about 500 feet from me on a different road, the cable company will not run cable down our road even though it isnt that far away. i live in alabama so all the land between us is farm land and i can run ethernet along a fence or something(i'll figure it out later) but anyway someone told me i can only run ethernet 300 feet, and that i could put a router about every 250 feet and it will resend the signal for another 300 feet. i wanted to know if i theres something that will resend the signal thats cheaper than a router like it has an in and an out instead of an in and 4 outs, then i can just run it like that and put the routers in a plastic casing or something.

There are ethernet extenders. http://www.patton.com/products/pe_products.asp?category=146

Another option is to use high gain antennas on both ends. You can have wireless go for several kilometers with good antennas. This one from SMC claims up to 9 miles. Maybe a bit overkill for what you need, but you can search around a bit and find a wireless set up that will work:. http://www.amazon.com/SMC-Wireless-High-Gain-Antenna/dp/B00005RD8E

I don;t know if they still make them, but before the profilation of combination routers there way another way to do it. Like a regular TV cable, the further the signal has go, the weaker it becomes. So they created an "in-line applifier", which simply took the weak in-coming signal, and boosted it, then let it move on. There;s an Ethernet version of that out there.

I had a customer that had a warehouse about 700 feet away from their office. I had a box of 1000 feet of cable and when I called the company that manufactured it they said I could run all of it in one run.
