I agree that a) your performance on an IQ test is a static and automatically flawed indicator of your "true" performance ability ( a theory called "true score theory" would be good to research here) and b) the test content does not relate to the daily functioning tasks which, if developmentally disabled, you have practiced so as to be able to accomplish them (i.e. dressing, grooming, performing concrete tasks).

Because it is a statistical average performance. You, on the other hand, can vary, from day to day. Say, counting a string of numbers backwards, reaction times and rotating objects in space. These can be context dependent, to a degree and can vary by sex, even. I, have scored 132 on one test and then caught a cold and scored 126 on another. The points are varied, 5 points, in either direction, on average.

The skills measured in an IQ test are not ones that are often used on a daily basis.

I have heard that many people with High IQ's lack common sense.I would imagine that they overlook the mundane things in life because they are always or sometimes deep in thought.Other things may seem too mundane for them or unimportant.I wonder if this is where the term insane comes from?

Because it relies on reading well, and some people can't read well (i.e. dyslexia) but are brilliant otherwise. For example, Charles Schwab, who founded the big investment firm, and Paul Orfalea, who founded Kinkos, the copier place, both are brilliant but they may not test well because they have dyslexia.
