I agree with "supa_wmn" - it really depends on what kind of rap/hip hop you want to get into. But as for my personal opinion, I highly recommend "Midnight Marauders" by A Tribe Called Quest. A classic album by a classic hip hop group. One of my favorites. You can check out some samples of it below...

Hope this helps.

i suggest you listen to any hip hop album from any hip hop artist from 1989 - 1996. the time span is considered to be "the golden age of hip hop" because people who made hip hop music back than rap about real topics and it came from the heart. if you like the type of music that are on tv and radio id suggest you stop and go back and listen to real music.

It depends on what type of rap/hip-hop you want to get into. If your looking for the "dro, hoes, and clothes" brand of rap then I'd check out 50 cent, Young Dro, Young Joc, TI. But if your looking for more conscious hip hop the look to Lupe Fiasco and Talib Kweli (sp?). Hope this helps.

My personal favorites are Mos Def, Talib Kweli, MURS, The Roots, Gangstarr, and The Pharcyde, and for more mainstream Outkast, Gnarls Barkley, Kanye West, and the newer TI stuff.
