Dreams are ways of showing things that happened in the past, present, or in the future. They can be good or bad dreams. It's important for you to focus on them because they can show you a lot of things.

Dreams have absolutely no meaning. They are simply random neuron firings from the brain stem. Dreams are the brain's attempt to make sense of this activity.Quoting my college Psychology text:
'Given these visual scense, our cognitive machinery - influence by its culture, age, gender, and concerns - weaves a story line.'
Freuds work 'The Interpretation of Dreams' was published in 1900. Freud's theories on dreams are no longer accepted as accurate by the psychology community.

yep.. from what I understand, dreams have meaning. According to freud, they are the realization of a desire (an unconcious desire, and maybe even a sort of punishment for one of those desires, like nightmares, etc..).
It is difficult to find the meaning, it's not like there's a symbolism that's the same for all of us.
Desires are the "energy" of the dream, but they take their peculiar form taking pieces of thoughts and things that where heard and seen during the day, if you think about it, you notice that easily. But the meaning is another thing..
And they are kind of thinking without knowing. Lacan used to say that the subconcious is structured like a language, it has it's own logic..

Sometimes dreams can have meaning besides your brain subconciously clearing itself of unwanted thoughts or issues. There is no set way to interperet dreams, as they are different for each individual.

dreams are the brains release. The brain shuts down your body so that you can experience your waking life and all of its fears and phobias without any consequence. If you are on fire in your dream, your body knows that it cannot hurt you so just toast marshmallows.

They have MEANING, just not necessarily deeper, oracular, meaning.
I had a dream that I bruttally murdered the drunk driver who hit my best friend. But when I moved the bloody hair from her face...She had my face!!! Clearly I was taking the guilt out on myself in real life. It was quite I opening.
It is easy to see someone else beating themselves up over something that wasn't their fault, but when you do it yourself, you get kinda blind to it.
Dreams are our subconcious sorting out our experiences, if not much more.
