I have read a loads this year, about 15, which for me is great. I have just finished 'A place called here' by Ceceila Ahern and am re-reading 'Stranger with my face' by Lois Duncan, which I read as a teenager! But by far the best book this year I've read is 'Where rainbows end' also by Cecelia Ahern.
What do you think is the best book you've ever read?

My favorite: "Starship Through Space" by Lee Correy (G. Harry Stine) c.1954

The author was an innovator....and also the 'father' of model rocketry.

I've read many books over the years and have many favourite books but the two that stand out are

The green mile by Steven King i was absorbed into this book and finished it in just over a week, you really got into the thoughts and feelings of the characters. When the film came out i made the biggest mistake of going to see it, i have to say it spoilt the whole story for me but i have since reread the book and am back to loving it again.

The second book which i have just finished reading is A piece of cake by Cupcake Brown it's the story of a girl who was horrifically abused as a child turned to drugs and fell into prostitution because of the abuse, but came through it all to become a lawyer. It is a book the takes you through every emotion you could imagine and makes you thank god for being lucky enough to have a family that loves you and is always there for you and makes you realise your life isn't so bad after all

I read We Need to Talk About Kevin by Lionel Shriver. What an amazing book. The best book I've ever read. Had me walking around in a daze for days after I'd finished it.

I've probably read about 15 or so too this year, ones to recommend - Life of Pi (Yann Martel) The God of Small Things (Arundhati Roy) I Choose to Live (Sabine Dardenne) Miss Smilla's Feeling for Snow (Peter Hoeg) Short History of Tractors in Ukranian (Marina Lewycka) A Long Way Down (Nick Hornby)

Ones to AVOID AT ALL COSTS The Island Victoria Hislop (nice idea, badly executed) Labyrinthe by Kate Mosse (she writes like an 11 year old) and The Kid by Kevin Lewis.

But if you really love reading please try We Need to Talk About Kevin. It will blow your mind.

The Source by James Michener (sp.d wrong!) Don't be daunted by the size of the book for when you've turned the final page, you'll be wishing for more. JM has a way of flipping back and forth between the time spaces he's chosen to place his story. It can be very frustrating at first but stick with him through at least the first 100 pages, you will be glad you did. If you find him to your reading pleasure, tackle Hawaii. Another Gem.

Three Men In A Boat by Jerome K. Jerome
(written at the turn of the 20th century, it's a comic masterpiece. It reads like a stand-up routine, and the humour is still relevant today - just try reading the chapter on decorating without laughing)

I read Reach For The Sky about Douglas Barder when I was very young, or perused to be more precise. He inspired me, one of my greatest heroes - a real one.He was maybe the reason I took up golf. I also read How To Play Your Best Golf by Tommy Armour. It sound sooooo boring and it is!!! no, wait.....there's more. It actually changed my character. He taught about patience and percentages. I learned.

I won a club championship at 17 and played for my county.

I heard ur song. It was pretty good. I play guitar a little and like to sing. My heart almost bursts with admiration for singers. Especially the pretty ones, for some reason !!!

good luck !!!

The Children Of Kawayna:Story by Guyanese author Edgar Mittelholzer, set in slavery days ,life on the plantations, relations between slaves ,owners/aristocracy and others. Tells of actual Historical facts.
The Rise And Fall Of The Third Reich: Fascinating book, gives the best in-sight yet of the inside operation of the third Reich, gives one an interesting account of Hitler,s rise to power in Germany, staring with his life in his native Austria, his entry into Germany, his thoughts, plans , long before he came into power his deep sense of mission , of what his role was destined to be.

I have read way too many books so I will give you my top three all time favorites that tie at first.

Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm
Wren (trilogy-- or at least it was the last time that read it)
Deerskin

Sorry, I no longer remember the authors but I haven't come across a book that takes the place of these since.

I've always enjoyed the Celestine books. The Celestine Prophecy, The Tenth Insight, and The Celestine Vision. They kind of make you think about life. Everything happens for a reason.
