"to me" is giving the other person power.
"for me" is selfish.
I appreciate the question here, because when someone is saying "I only want you as a friend", they usually come up with the whole "you mean alot to me". Maybe this person should just be stating what is truly in their mind: "I am selfish and I decide how and why you are useful."
So under this analyzation, if someone actually ment alot to someone, then they would not be typasting or controlling the other person.

Hello sister. This whole portion in Luke 17, from verse 20 and onwards, is such a strong speaking concerning the Kingdom of God and the rapture of the overcoming believers. Lot's wife became a pillar of salt because she took a lingering look backward at Sodom, indicating that she loved and treasured the evil world that God was going to judge and utterly destroy. She was rescued from Sodom, but she did not reach the safe place that Lot reached (Gen. 19:15-30). She did not perish; neither was she fully saved. Like the salt that becomes tasteless (14:34-35) she was left in a place of shame. This is a solemn warning to the world-loving believers. The Kingdom of God is not a physical realm, but a spiritual one. The coming of the Kingdom was the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ. In vss 20 and 21, the Lord Jesus said that this Kingdom does not come with Observation, you cannot say " here it is or there it is" .. since this Kingdom is in the midst of you. Lot's wife, as the Lord has spoken, needs to be a real reminder for us. She was one who gave her heart to love the World, rather than give her heart to be a place where Christ, as the Seed of the Kingdom could be planted, rooted and grown. Ephesians 3:17 That Christ may make His home in your hearts through faith, that you, being rooted and grounded in love, The warning is very clear, if our hearts are not loving the Lord, and be ones that await His glorious return, we can be like Lot's wife, who had become useless tasteless salt. Matthew 5:13 You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt has become tasteless, with what shall it be salted? It is no longer good for anything except to be cast out and trampled underfoot by men. What a shameful place to be. Under the feet of men. As salt we should be here in the world, not loving and giving our hearts for it, but helping to add taste, the words of Christ to this world. Colossians 4:6 Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one. How I hold this speaking of the Lord so close right now sister, because we are so easily captured by the things in this world. Loving some element of it, which works its way into us to usurp the Lord's place in our hearts. For Lot's wife to take a lingering look back, meant that she did not see Sodom for what it was. It was a place that was to be utterly judged by God because of its sinfulness. But she saw it as home, a place to become set, settled and occupied. There are a few cities in the bible which represent the World in different aspects. Egypt showing the World in bondage. Babylon showing the world in idolatary and Sodom showing the World in its lustful sinfulness. Today the World, the satanic system developed by the Kingdom of darkness, is the place in which we live as believers. The Lord, in speaking regarding the world, urges us to have a view in our hearts, that the World is not a place to be loving and giving our hearts to. 1 John 2:15 Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in him; The World stands against the Father as seen in this verse. The Flesh against the Spirit ( Gal 5:17) The Devil against the Son ( 1 Jn 3:8) Giving our hearts to love our God, is the way to be preserved in our saltiness and in our hearts. Our hearts need to be the good earth, with the proper kind of condition to grow Christ as the Seed of the Kingdom. And I love sister, that this is not just a matter of MY heart, but its altogether a matter of many hearts, making One Home for God to dwell in. IF God is given a way to rule and exercise His authority in the hearts of His People, then this gives Him a greater way to manifest His coming Kingdom sooner. When the Lord comes back, may we not be put to shame and be outside the bright glory of the Kingdom... Matthew 8:12 But the sons of the kingdom will be cast out into the outer darkness ( not the lake of fire). In that place there will be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth. Matthew 25:30 And cast out the useless slave ( sort of like tasteless salt) into the outer darkness. In that place there will be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth Oh sister, may we give ourselves to Love the Lord, allow Him the fullest way in our hearts, where He deals with all the hidden rocks ( sins) hardness ( letting the worldly traffic have too much access into our hearts and making it hardened) and thorns ( anxiety for our living and deceitfulness of riches) that we would speak out this Christ to others so that they too can experience this glorious transfer out of the Kingdom of darkness, to be brought into the Kingdom of the Son of God's love. Lets never forget to remember Lot's wife and the solemn warning the Lord has issued. Too often I forget. Ty for this reminder sister. Grace be with your spirit ( 2 Tim 4:22)
