I`m English and no the rest of the world don`t think very highly of the US .There are a few Americans that i like very much ,and who i keep in touch with ,and lots who i like chatting with (on the multi player game sites )but that's as individuals But in general i don`t think much of America or Americans ,and i think it is for the same reasons that other countries have no affection for them ,I`ts the arrogant attitude. The American government is arrogant when dealing with other countries and the majority of American people are arrogant and patronising with other people .The answers to this question speak for them selves .What has WW2 got to do with this question and as it happens Germans say they were defeated by Russia and they should know ,and then the Charity thing , if Americans looked at the big picture they would realise that other countries on percentages with national wealth are far more generous ,I have even had some of them on here telling me that Britain relies on their handouts and they have to come bailing us out of trouble Any Americans on here should take a look at the answers on here and it should be more than clear why your not liked .No one likes being patronised .

Well if you are talking about affection then thats hard to tell. The USA has many "allies" around the globe politically. I'm sure than within these countries there are plenty of people who like or dislike the USA. As for Great Britian, I'm sure that there are people there that like and dislike the USA. Although, as you mentioned, you have not met any of them. Just because someone may not agree with the current political views in the USA, that does not always mean that they dislike the USA overall. In the case of Britian, people are justified in disagreeing with the USA, however, if they hate the USA then they should remember who it was that stormed into the rubble when Hitler was goose stepping across thier country. They should remember how many americans gave thier lives so that many Europeans could be free.

Saudi Arabia love America. The 9/11 Hijackers were from Saudi Arabia, and what did America do? Let the Saudi Bin Laden family escape from America on 9/12, did a large oil deal a week later and then bombed Afghanistan - a country that might or might not have had Osama Bin Laden in it.

China loves America, because the world now sees America as a bigger human rights abuser than China (although it's not true).

Iran loves America, because Iran's old enemy has been removed and Iran now controls the Iraqi Shia power.

Russia loves America; because America has made the Middle East so unstable it pushed oil prices sky high making them rich again. They are now investing in military hardware and moving back to super-power status.

China loves America, because they own massive amounts of US debt and US property. Communist China is becoming the new power in the world.

The Taliban love America, because they're producing 100 times more Heroin and have control of most of Afghanistan again.

But the American people are all really nice - it's just their foreign policy that sucks.

Get real. You can't have affection for a Country. Only for those people in it whom you have met and spent time with.

If Iraq had gone well the detractors would be crowing "Well done America", but it has gone sour. So they are all moaning....20/20 hindsite is a wonderful thing.

I have spent a lot of time in the States, and I can tell you antis who have probably never set foot there, that I was almost always made welcome, by kind and generous people when and wherever I went. I could never repay them.

America is a good country.

Turkey, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Portugal, Canada, Norway, Finland, Pakistan, Malaysia, Australia, Japan, Taiwan, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, the UAE, Jordan, Brazil, Columbia.....et al

They all have American weapons, and /or use American technologies as part of their own indigenous weapons projects.

Quite a lot of these nations also have British weapons - our defence industry ain't dead yet.

What is the problem?

Talk to Scotland. Even if they are a part of the UK, they probably admire us silently for breaking away from England's tyrannical, taxing government/monarchy. Even though that was in 1776, it seems that maybe Tony Blair is one of the few in the country with enough sense to let it be water under the bridge. The US has a reputation for being a few things, and most of them are a matter of opinion. Kind of like how the UK has the reputation for being the country that keeps their underwear up their rear ends all the time. Stop giving the world that impression, and we won't have that opinion.

You forgot Poland.

And in case you don't follow American politics, that's a reference to the 2004 presidential debates, and the implication is that Bush's foreign destroyed our ties to the international community to the point where he could only list one country that was still behind us.

Although there are quite a few countries that recieve US foreign aid, even most of those don't like us very much. There are some quite revolting strings attached to the money we give out. Among other things, we don't give foreign aid to any country in which abortion is legal. Basically, we can't even buy friends.

I think you need to separate the USA from its president. I know many people do not support the American president (including here in the USA), but that does not mean that the USA as a country (or culture or people) is not popular.
I mean - look at how popular McDonald's, or Hollywood, or Disney are. Mickey Mouse is more recognizable round the world than Jesus (I read that somewhere). That should tell you that although right now the American political climate is.. uhh... less than desirable, still the world does recognize the USA as a leading social and cultural leader.
