such a heartfelt and hurtfull question to my soul, just answered one about the day I fell from GRACE, its all one of the same, its been 5 years and the silence is deafening and the tear of my heart has not healed, married 27 years, and just to be able, to see his smile and say -THANK-YOU- for loving me and our children, and giving us your heart unconditional

Nice question Sunny. Reminds me of John Edward's book "One Last Time" - which deals with the response of a lot of people to that idea and that question.

Had a weird sort of experience with this last Christmas. My dad went into hospital with a hangnail that had turned into gangrene. He was gonna have his leg amputated and then he'd be fine. Went to see him in hospital four times that Christmas week, brought him a special Christmas lunch and all that. My mom, who divorced him when I was 8, came too - one of the only times they'd been in a room together since. They laughed, joked, and for the first real time, I saw the spark that had brought them together in the first place. We kinda said a lot of stuff we'd never been able to share before, and even though he was gonna be fine, it was very much a feeling of closure.

He died a little while after. If I live to be a hundred, I'll be glad we did that week of Christmas, to be able to tell him we were good.

The flipside is one of my best friends. We met in high school and were still friendly in our 30s. Last time I spoke to him on the phone we were making plans for him to come visit me and my ex once he got back from holiday - he was a doctor, it was all he'd ever wanted to be, and he was taking his first break in years.

I was on holiday myself when they told me he'd committed suicide.

I've told him this many times, and I'd tell him again if I had the chance: Life is for the living. We miss you every day, you stupid sod. You were never a disappointment. I miss the opportunity to hug you silly and slap you upside the head. We could have helped. Love you man....
