I have a 1998 ford tarus station wagon and recently replaced the power steering pump and alternator,I am having dificulty stopping the ''new'' noise from ps pump even tho I am trying to bleed it,maybe my method is wrong,I am loosining the line on top of pump and turning steering wheel, while of course the car is running,do I need a second person to watch the pump while i do this?I also had to remove the water reserve tank and lost some water,do I need to bleed the radiator and if so,how?I used a stethoscope to determine that most of noise was coming from new pump, good advise will be well appreciated,ty,Lee

The Taurus is a royal pain in the butt to get the PS pump bled properly. Last one I did took over 2 hours. You should have a helper, one to endlessly crank the steering wheel back and forth, the other to watch the flow of bubbles from inside the pump reservoir. When the bubbles stop, your done.

Burping the cooling system after removing the overflow tank shouldn't really really necessary but it couldn't hurt either.

For no other reason than to relieve the strain on the steering mechanism jack up the front end. Fill the reservoir, start engine, cycle the steering wheel back and forth, stop to stop, slowly several times and the noise caused, by air, will go away. Don't loosen any lines!! The radiator, top it off. After you run it and get it hot, let cool and then top it off again.. Your done, Happy Motoring

You shouldn't have to "bleed" the power steering system. The noise should go away on it's own after any type of power steering system repair. Do you need to top up the system regularly? Do you have any other leaks in the system? (ie high pressure line, steering rack etc.) Just top up the coolant de-gas bottle. You do not bleed the cooling system.
