If you're looking for guidance, Stephen King's "On Writing" was great. 'The Artist's Way' was also great.
If you're looking for inspiration, read anything by William Faulkner. 'Lord of the Flies' is my favorite book, so I'll throw that out there, also.

Read anything and everything - you can learn what not to do from books that are poorly written, and emulate authors whose work you admire. Read some prize-winning books. You can find lists online for the Man Booker Prize, the Pulitzer, Nobel Prize for Literature, etc.
If you find an author whose work you like, read everything they've written from their earliest works to their most recent. See if you can see how their writing style evolved over the years. Many writers have written books on writing - someone already mentioned Stephen King, and Julia Cameron's "The Artist's Way". I like Anne Lamott's "Bird by Bird". See if an author you like has written a book on writing.
