Why the name calling and childish games that goes on here, it comes across as a school yard game. With attitudes like this will America ever heal?

Thank you for one of the most intelligent Qs on this rant & rave site. If people here are representative of the voters at large, we are already lost.

I have railed against the hatred I have found here since joining YA. Those most fond of name calling are those with closed minds, unwilling to admit the other guy just might have a point. Argument is the basis of democracy, it's only when everyone agrees that I begin to really worry.
Honest open discussion of issues allows us to look at every side of the question, and perhaps learn something.

The name-calling and childish games? Don't forget, well, children can get on here and start that in their spare time! Whenever someone asks, "How old are you?" Many answers go like, "12," or "9" and so on! We adults on here can be a bit childish, I admit, but remember that much of it could come from children themselves.

When ideas are absent - I mean the ability to undertake reasoned and factual debate using real substantive ideas regarding our self image as a nation and the moral foundation and principles on which a nation is based in comparison to the current reality in which we live, is absent. The vocal majority can only resort to name calling to express their displeasure, when the real problem is their inability to articulate complex ideas and form reasoned arguments aided and abetted by the media who essentially panders to low brow political rhetoric. The failure of political discourse in the US and the effectivenes of 'wedge' politics is directly attributable to the ineffectiveness of public education to ensure that a broad range of the public can engage complex, more philosophical concepts. Simply its a thinking problem combined with the 'acceptability' of anti intellectual rhetoric. In the US there is in some sections of the population a degree of 'coolness' to being uneducated. Note I do not say nor do I mean 'dumb'. These people are NOT dumb rather they simply were never taught the intellectual tools to engage in substantive reasoned discussions.

I think part of the reason is that conservatives have friends that are liberals and liberals have friends that are conservatives and they don't get to vent around them in the same fashion that they can in a place like here.
hopefully, most of it is just venting and most of these comments aren't as serious as they seem to be.

There are a lot of us that don't fall into that behavior... those types of rants are normally due to immaturity, lack of real political knowledge and a desire for attention.
Oh yea, they are also testosterone related if you pay attention to the ones doing it.
