Being that most people trying to get into the performance or composition aspects of the biz are of mediocre talent, the stats pertaining to success and failure are not accurate, but yes, it is a hard biz to get into. Mostly seedy, greedy people runnin it like most other entertainment industries

I am another person trying to get into the music business and this is what I think.
The difficulty depends on the field u want to get into and ur route.
The field is like producing,a &r, singer etc.
Your route is like how your going to get there. Like are you just going to make a demo cd and send it to various record companys or start a small label and work from there. So all you need is time and patience and you will make it.
