The history of education in the states (the last several decades) is rather dismal - unwillingness to discipline the kids, shifting away from the truth and accepting relative truth and relative morals.
'Diversity' and 'minority quotas', 'political correctness' and 'bussing' all contributed to the demise of the attitude that said "We are the adults/teachers and YOU are the students who need to listen, obey and retain the teaching. Students who should go out to the world with good citizenship attitudes and a desire to be somebody with integrity and zeal"
Sorry that it is like that, but we oldsters remember when it was different and would like it to be so again. Sadly, mistakes were made and now no one seems to be able to put right those things.
Mu suggestion: home educate your children, or at least get them into private schools with moral values and discipline.

Well the public schools are not that good, but still that is no reason to drop out. A lot of these young people don't realize how important it is to stay in school until it's too late. I don't know why so many people leave high school. I have heard some complain it's boring or too hard. If they can't get through high school how are they going to get through life.

I have always thought the drop-out rate would lower if high schools would be more flexible in their curriculum and allow students who choose to go on a skilled worker track. I don't think everyone should be required to take a language for instance but perhaps a course in cultural diversity and appreciation. Not everyone needs higher math. Courses can also be developed to fit the skilled working needs of the surrounding community to prepare capable workers with work skills and attitudes. I also think high schools should prepare students to be prepared for real life situations in personal finance, making wise life choices and life skills. This would motivate students to stay in school.

The sea level has been rising pretty steady for over 100 years. It can easily be compensated for by creating large man made lakes in low areas of the world. The central valley in California once had a lake as large as the Great Salt Lake, but it was destroyed by man. The Mississippi River floods nearly every year causing millions in damage. For less money we could build a large lake along the edge of the river that would eliminate the annual flooding and eliminate much of the sea level rise, Kill two birds with one stone. This would be environmentally very friendly, creating new habitat for bird species.

As a teacher, I really truely believe its not about whether you go to a public or private school. Its about students not caring enough about school and their future...Its also parents not being able to enforce discipline with their children. A lot of parents today don't have an authoritarian respect with their children, its more about being a friend to them. Lack of parenting is a huge reason kids drop out.

Because this country is run by leaders who think that prioritizing a stupid war over education is the way that the USA is going to remain a world power.
Education is where real power is and not "bullying" other nations like what the USA is doing to Iraq right now.
