There is a movie called Gremlins. Plus a sequel, The New Batch. The idea of Gremlins has been around for quite some time, being that there's an old Bugs Bunny cartoon with them on the plane. I remember the song. "We're the Gremlins...from the Kremlin..."

Do you mean Gremlin? From the 1984 film Gremlins, and the 1990 sequel Gremlins 2: The new Batch in which they were depicted as the following.

They are green lizard like creatures that mutate from the cute, and cuddly Mogwi.

There are 3 rules to owning a Mogwi: No brightlights, don't let them get wet, and don't feed after midnight.

When they eat during an unspecified time frame between midnight and daybreak they mutate by generating a large green pod and then hatching as Gremlins. They reproduce by getting wet, submersion leads to massive population explosions, while controlled application of single drops leads to a 1-1 reprduction ratio, in that each water applied to a Mogwi/Gremlin drop produces a new Mogwi/Gremlin. The are allergic to sunlight, it causes them to turn into a 'photochemical residue' which looks like poo.

The concept of Gremlins dates back to at least WWII, when it was said that they inhabited electronic devices and caused them to malfunction. They even appeared in several cartoons of the day, depicted as little mulit-colored imps who broke thinsg for fun.

During WWII most U.S. service men began to believe in "Gremlins" as they began to experience mysterious equipment malfunctions with their gear and vehicles as they swept through the Pacific and got closer to Japan. The mythological creatures were described as tiny mischievous asian demons that hid in dark shadows and would come out at night to sabotage machines and mechanical devices.

There was a movie in the '80 called Gremlins starring Zach Galliger, Phobe Cates, Cory Feldman and Howie Mandell as the voice of Gizmo. They took the myth a whole lot further with the addition of "The 3 rules" and the existance of the Mogwai (a cute furry little creature) as the Gremlins starting form.

One of the rules was "Never feed the Mogwai after midnight" (doing so would cause the Mogwai to change into a Gremlin, becoming a larger green skinned demonoid-looking creature).

Another rule "Never get them wet." (Mogwai and Gremlins multiply in water.)

The third rule "Keep them away from bright lights, especially sunlight, it will kill them." (Affects both Mogwai and Gremlins and explains why Gremlins stick to the shadows and only come out at night.)

There was a squel made a few years later, but I think the first one was better.

A Gremlin is like a troll monster thing from the movie Gremlins. It is a nice fury creature unless you feed it after midnight then little balls pop out of it.

WIKI:
A gremlin is a mythological mischievous creature. Gremlins are depicted as mechanically oriented and extremely devious.

The concept of the Gremlins as responsible for sabotaging aircraft is first recorded among airmen of Britain's Royal Air Force during World War II, in particular the men of the high altitude Photographic Reconnaissance Units (PRU) of RAF Benson, RAF Wick and RAF St Eval. The story attempted to explain the accidents which often occurred during their flights.

Movies:
Gremlins 1 and 2 (maybe 3)
Twilight Zone episode with William Shatner.
Twilight Zone movie. (With John Lithgow as the passenger. He played the original gremlin)

While Roald Dahl was famous for making gremlins known world wide, many returning Air Servicemen swear they saw creatures tinkering with their equipment. One crewman swore he saw one before an engine malfunction that caused his B-25 Mitchell bomber to rapidly lose altitude, forcing the aircraft to return to base. Critics of this idea state that the stress of combat and the dizzying heights caused such hallucinations, often believed to be a coping mechanism of the mind to help explain the many problems aircraft faced whilst in combat
