Do you know someone like that? and why do you think they do it?
I knew this guy who could not hold a conversation without criticizing whatever was being talked about. There was no way. I would bring up a topic and he would manage to criticize something from it.
If I said "I saw the show Cops" (he'd criticize police) If I said "I think I'm becoming a doctor" (he'd criticize the health system) If I said "let's watch X movie" (he would go on about censorship within it)
There was a point where I felt like crying just cause I didn't wanna kick the hell out of him LOL
I mean I'm not an idiot so I know there are many things wrong in the world, but come on, let's just live and let live ...

To the few who didn't get it. I know we all dislike things, and criticize things ONCE IN A WHILE... but I am talking about those people who criticize everything, as in E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G.
The fact that I am criticizing those people if you will, doesn't mean that I am one of them because I do not criticize E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G.
You gotta spend a lot of time interacting with someone to be able to realize that they criticize e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g.

It's been my experience that people who have a tendency to criticize everything do so to draw attention to themselves. Usually they know nothing about the subject being discussed, so they criticize. You don't have to be knowledgeable about anything being discussed in order to complain. You just have to know how to gripe. And if you practice enough you can hide your ignorance very well. I try to stay away from those people as much as possible. I mean, I'm a cranky old fart but those people are ridiculous. They are the kind of people who can brighten up a whole room...by leaving.

Well, Criticizing others is a way to get attention whether that point is good or bad. The objectives for those people are to get noticed.
While sometimes criticism is based on anger and something unfair that is going on comparing to their base belief.
For examples: IRAQ war, Democrats criticize Republican for sending soldiers to harm way while Republican criticize Democrats for not protecting the country.
It is like a glass of water, it is either half full or half empty.

Deep down they have insecurities and they hide it by putting everyone and everything else down. Most people feel better about themselves by criticizing others. Most of the time all they need is a good lesson in humility. Once they humble themselves they wont need to do that anymore.

My estrange Dad! Anything and everything...complain, complain, complain! Freaking Fanatic about it, too! He moved into my house about 3 years ago. Ahhhhhhh! What was I thinking?????
He must have lived a very hateful and negative life in his day. Very miserable man. Has nothing to say positive. Just a grumpy, hateful, Mr. Know-it-all.
Again, Thank heaven I'm medicated!

There are some people who are very critical and negative by nature and sad to say, that is the way they are. You are better than me, because I would hav stopped talking to this person long ago.

He is a person of extremely low self esteem and this is the behaviour patterns that were modelled to him. People show up in our lives to show us things about ourselves we cannot see because they are so close to us. So where are you being overly critical of yourself. love and forgiveness to self and then to others.

I know someone like that. He thinks Im a complete moron and thinks Im poor and lowly. They do it because they have to make themselves feel better than you. But it just shows you how desperate and ignorant they are.

i know what you are talking about and i sympathize with you. it sounds like your bf is frustrated and depressed. he is totally unhappy with his environment right now. the best thing he could do for himself is see his doctor. maybe he can set him up with counciling or some meds to relieve fhim of the depression. i hope this works. now to get him to do it. lol. good luck, and merry christmas.
