1.If he is using regular 12ax7's there is some made for high gain.
2.EMG-81 will help.
3.get a tube screamer pedal. ;)
4.If you have a rack and not a combo just change you preamp to a peavey rockmaster(alot of hiss tho) or a mesaboogie triaxis.
5. try the Podxt. alot of bells and whistles. I run the /xtlive straight to the board and couldn't be happier.

the cheapest mod is probably to change to some hi-gain pick-ups on the axe - couple of EMG's ought to do it
