ROM stands for read-only memory. It holds the most basic of instructions for a PC, which are retained in the chip's circuits even when the power is turned off. When you boot your PC, the ROM chip knows how to read data from your hard drive in order to start up your operating system (Windows, MacOS, Linux, etc). Go ROM!

ROM stands for Read Only Memory. A ROM chip is a chip where data can only be read and cannot be written to or modified. All though there are always ways to do so but in general its read only.

Pronounced rahm, acronym for read-only memory, computer memory on which data has been prerecorded. Once data has been written onto a ROM chip, it cannot be removed and can only be read.
Unlike main memory (RAM), ROM retains its contents even when the computer is turned off. ROM is referred to as being nonvolatile, whereas RAM is volatile.
Most personal computers contain a small amount of ROM that stores critical programs such as the program that boots the computer. In addition, ROMs are used extensively in calculators and peripheral devices such as laser printers, whose fonts are often stored in ROMs.
A variation of a ROM is a PROM (programmable read-only memory). PROMs are manufactured as blank chips on which data can be written with a special device called a PROM programmer .

Read Only Memory (ROM). It is a small memory chip that cannot be rewritten. It's write-once. It's typically used to store boot and hardware configuration information. They can be on a motherboard of a computer, or in a calculator or even in a printer.
It's something that you would only see in manufacturing. You would never see it available in a CompUSA or Circuit City for you to buy.

I'm not sure, but in case you didn't spell it right, a RAM chip is a Random Access Memory chip that allows you to run more programs at the same time and your computer still running fast. You can find RAM chips at computer stores and internet sites. I would suggest you have at leat 512mb of RAM on your computer.
