My computer has developed a mind of its own! I turn it off and it turns itself back on!!! This happens about 4-5 times in a row, then it remains off...sometimes!!! then in the middle of the night it turns itself on again. That's when I disconnect the power.
Has someone sent a virus or something that has changed its operating system. Is it a bios problem? or a hardware malfunction. The computer works okay otherwise, although I have had it shut off once or twice on its own? I am fairly knowledgeable about computers but not hardware savvy.

I'm not making this up!!! ofcourse when the power is disconnected it doesn't come on!!DUH...
But I never have any trouble turning on, press the on button once it starts, although I have to hold the on button (which also turns it off) down for quite awhile before it shuts down.

It's not a virus. You have wake up settings in bios that will turn on the computer if it detects a modem ring or ethernet activity. They can also make it turn on if the power flickers. You just have to go into setup and hunt down those settings.

Your power switch is probably not fully disconnected. Do you sometimes have trouble turning your computer on? Do you sometimes turn the power on only to see the computer shut itself off after a few seconds? Because if you do, it means that the power switch isn't fully engaging or disengaging.

Edit:

If that's not the case, try this. The possibility that you have a virus called a "zombie" is interesting.

Ya,hardware problem. I don't know if your computer is still under warranty but explain the problem to a technalogist where you bought the computer. If not under warranty get an estimate.
