The 'world' is not in for a brighter future. Man has the power to change, but refuses to do so. Global warming is scare tactic. It's happened before and will continue. Pollution is man-made condition, which only the USA is trying to curb. America is the most industrialized nation on the planet. Up and coming nations are not doing their part to curb the 'pollution' issues, and that just the facts. Economic instability has also been around for hundreds of years, so it shall continue.
War, now there is the real problem. Humans are always looking for a better way kill other human beings. We are getting really good at this. New methods are being developed every few months. Rogue nations want the power and are getting it from other rogue nations, and terrorist groups, Communist, former Communist and from educated minds that have been thrown away by the aforementioned.
As we continue to head for 'self-distruction', the coming generations will know no peace. Have you ever seen the British production of a series called 'Treads'? I think it shows exactly where humanity is headed.

It's really quite obvious to me that you haven't been watching the news or paying attention to the movie Al Gore made. If we start to take things more seriously like people did in the 50s and 60s. Protest for our childrens' children future; glaciers are falling apart and wintertime isn't even winter anymore; George Bush is letting innocent people die in Iraq for oil.
No, I don't think our government or the world isn't making progress toward global warming, pollution, war, or economic instability. I mean, people who need the money aren't getting in and we have all these problems and so much more and here in the U.S. people just aren't doing anything about it!

definite and No... i think of there'll continually be a stability of solid and undesirable people. In circumstances of conflict you could continually discover solid people; likewise in circumstances of peace you could continually discover undesirable people. somewhat, if we've been able to extend standards of residing international we'd have the skill to advance people who're knowledgeable, properly-versed, etc...yet this says no longer something for morality. As for the fairway possibilities and community provider, I even tend to discover that there are various ulterior motives. babies do community provider so as that they could placed it on the college resumes and flow someplace effective, many don't certainly do it by using fact they like to help the community. and a few do purchase hybrid or electric vehicles (Prius, etc) to coach off that they have got money. It happens. i do no longer think of we can ever gain the ideal international, a utopia...even in distinctive years. Human nature would not enable it too. even with the undeniable fact that, we can get as close as attainable.

I think at this stage it's hard to tell and it could go either way.
There's still a hell of a lot of people who don't even believe there's a connection between global warming and pollution. There are still millions who believe money is more important than peace, like our governments.
We need more people to realise that it's individual choice that makes worldwide change. Too many people still believe that they are powerless to do anything.
The government loves these people as they're the ones that keep the gold edging on their overflowing dinner plates and the brand names on all their slavemade clothes. They won't listen to warnings unless there's a price tag of 9 digit amounts on it.
That said, the number of people who can see beyond tomorrow is growing. But as you can see on this webpage there's still a lot of negativity to overcome.
All us positive people can do is keep trying to change the world.

One big fallacy, here. You can only compare the world of today with the world of the past and not to some imagined future. So, with that proviso, we can say the world is a better place, on average, than it was in, say, the bubonic plague years in Europe.

I would like to think we are smart enough to get a grip on the pollution, global warming and such for our decendents. I would hate to think that we have so selfishly abused ourselfs that we have ruined it for them.
Good Question!

It's all in how they want to see it. I used to look at the world in a very negative way. In the last few years I've decided to try to see the good in everything I can. So - I think the world is a good place - and I'm raising my child to see it that way too. See the good - and if you can't see the good - pray.

the second followed by the first. we have screwed this world up so much that at this point we require some huge upset, a global reset key, to get it back on track. much like christans coming of the sovior, or the scintific metior extinction.

The world is getting worse. The amount of money spent on weapons of destruction is out of all proportion to any possible threats; it's getting beyond insanity. Greed and acquisitiveness rule.
