i own a repair shop, and as a rule of thumb you usually need to have one tuned up every 20 thousand miles or so,,even though they say that they will last a lot longer,,i never go over 20k with out checking them out real good, this way it keeps them running good ,and getting good gas mileage also, and this helps prevent future problems also, on any car,,good luck i hope this help,s.,,have a good x-mas.

It depends on the year make and model of your car most newer vehicles have very little in the way of tune up items, first check your owners manual there will be a scheduled maintenance guide in it and it will tell you what to have check or replaced at around the mileage you currently have.

If you don't have an owners manual you can contact the service department of the dealership that sells your model of car and they can help.

Usually with the newer cars the most that gets changed would be the spark plugs, air filter, and fuel filter if the car has an external one.

if you notice the car not performing well
if you don't know when it was done last
before winter

older cars without computers and electronic fuel injection need to be tuned more frequently. a modern car won't require new wires or plugs more than once every 100,000 miles, and can go 200,000 even. there's nothing to tune instead you just use the check engine light to tell you when sensors and such break and keep the system running clean it will rarely need to be tuned.

Your owners manual should tell you this. Some people never do it just do routine maintance such as oil, antifreeze, filters. I have my car checked in the Fall and again in the spring. And maintain the routine mantance and should the TRUSTED shop my car goes to suggest I have one done, its done. I have a 2004 with 30,000 miles on it and Ive had 2 tuneups done. One was prior to going on a 2600 mile road trip the other was before winter came up here where I now live.

depends how old the car is ,usually a new car is serviced at 1000kms to start with then 5000kms and then every 10,000 kms after that.

Usually you have a major service which is your plugs, filters, oils and a general roadworthiness check and then a minor service which is just the oils and filters.

Dont skimp on servicing it is false economy, usually a good mechanic can pick up faults when they are minor and cheap to fix, if left they can become major and expensive.

i dont actually do a tune-up all the time, but i do check my car out about twice a year and if it needs something, then i buy it.when spring time comes, ill check it out again.,i change my oil twice a year, once in spring and again in the fall, that way i know my car is up in shape.if you dont let it run down, then it does cost too much to fix it.

depends on the manufacturer, some go longer that others and it also depends on your driving habits and conditions driven in.
