I love having something personally made a Whole lot more than getting a coupon or a gift I won't use... so what are some ideas of gifts that can be handmade for an economical price?

I love homemade candies and cookies, as well as crafts and fun ideas...

Here was the best place I could think to ask this, because there are SO many people in here that have either given or received somethng wonderful as a gift that didn't cost much, but the thoughtfulness in the gift meant SO much more than the price.

to eat... cookies, bars, pastries are portable and fun. they make the house smell like christmas! also, you can make enough so that you get to eat or share the extra. or donate it to a food shelf.

something handmade and seasonal... mittens, a quilt (so appreciated in the cold months!) a sparkly scarf, etc. will be used and enjoyed throughout january and february. a festive tablecloth? steering-wheel cover?

if you are able to make candles, small woodcrafted ornaments or items, such as napkin holders or perhaps a new newspaper holder... they will bring a smile each time the morning paper is fetched or a napkin is taken (to put under a homemade christmas cookie... see how they relate?) and remind the receiver of the gift that someone was very thoughtful.

and here's a gift that brings a warm thought: trees, plants or shrubs to plant come springtime. the gift that keeps on giving!

happy holidays, cw!

I don't know how crafty you are...but my husband and I are in the tree cutting business...so every year I make ornaments out of pine cones and they never cost more that a couple of dollars each to make...I bet if you think really hard, you can come up with a beautiful style all your own. Craft stores carry everything you need to complete your project. I spent $20 on supplies, this year and have made over 100 ornaments...see what you can do;)

Also, this is something they can bring out and use for the next several years.

Well, this yr. has been tough on my family, so my mother-in-law came up w/this idea: instead of everybody buying gifts for everyone else, each family will make a special treat for the other families and put them in a nice tin. This way, you don't spend a lot of $$, and you can save $$ after the holidays on treats for the kids...Just give them Aunt Ann's cookies, or nanna's cupcakes, or whatever.

At big parties, I've gotten a little "goody bag," which is actually a small little stocking filled with chocolate, candy, etc. You could buy plain stockings, then decorate them to fit your preferences..

Bake a treat and wrap them up specially with Christmas bags...

I'm looking for any ideas as well, good luck!

For family/friends you know well you could make a memory jar/box by decorating a jar or box and putting slips of paper in them that have reminders of some memory you share with them. Like 'remember the afternoon we went fishing and you threw the pole in the lake?' or 'remember the valentine you made for me out of macaroni?' ...you get it, the "memory" can be what ever you want depending on your relationship with that person. The idea is to put one "memory" on each slip of paper so they can draw them out one at a time.
