Doh, thought I was the only one who experiences that which I do on a regular basis. Think it is dryness and so have taken to putting a Q-tip in some olive oil and gently rubbing it around my ear hole and this does help. I recall having earache a lot as a child and my parents use to warm some oil and drop it into the ear and then plug with cotton wool so knew the oil wouldn't damage. Hope this helps you as much as it has me.

Cotton buds shove wax down your lughole so far it blocks it up, so the nurse told me when I went for an ear swingeing, but I do have narrow ear-hole passages, they say.
I think itchy ear-holes are caused by infection, caused by coughing up flem ( cold's flu etc), (ear nose throat), which causes narrowing ear-hole passages.
I have read that antibiotics have little effect in this area? Anyway I now have permanently narrow passages that get blocked continually and go to the hospital regularly for 'hoovering'.

Hold your head under the shower and hold your head to one side, and let water run in one ear and out of the other. Works everytime. Not only will get rid of that itchy ear but it also prove that you have nothing between each ear.
Lol
I guess this is where peoples dirty habits surface.

I have used a kirby grip - one of those small brown hairslides - in the past, as it has a rounded end, is the right size to get around your inner ear without bursting your eardrum!

i was told that the only thing that you should put in your ears is your elbow. but when my ears itch i may use anything in sight, like: a cutip, hairpin, or even a pen cover or if i have long nails that might help out

I use a long nail but you can use a Q-tip it would work fine and it would clean your ears at the same time (Two-in-one)

You really should not poke anything in your ear, you could do a lot of damage! Just wiggle your finger around a bit in there...;

My Granny used to say "Don't put anything in your ear smaller than your thumb"
I know it's of no help but I thought I'd tell you anyway
