you have to remove the straps that hold the u joint on the rear end. once you remove the straps the drive shaft will come down in the rear. them just slide the slip joint out of the trans by pulling the shaft toward the rear of the truck.

I just did one last week, first take the 4 bolts out that hold the rear u-joint to the rear end. Wrap somr tape around the U-joint caps so they don't fall off. Then you will have to remove the carrier bearing in the center of the vehicle it only has 2 bolts with nuts , 11/16 and 5/8 i believe.
As long as you don't seperate the 2 halves of the driveline it is not necessary to mark anything.
have a pan ready when you pull the 8 foot monster out of the trans because you will lose a cup or so of fluid

not sure if they started the nylon filling in there in 83 yet or not but if it has retaining straps on one side you take out the bolts on one side and slide the shaft out the other. If it doesn't slide out the other side then you have to heat up the side that doesn't have the bolts to get the nylon fill out of it (propane torch or map gas torch). When doing this be sure not to overheat the metal, just get it to start getting red and keep the torch moving back and forth to see the fill coming out of it. It'll snake out and coil around in a long strand.

examine the tensioner first. If this is okay i have got here upon out belt dressing or cleansing soap in elementary words works for s little while. What i have performed for a lengthy time period restoration is used tire cleanser. not the stuff that makes it shine. The stuff for cleansing in elementary words. each and every so often dust from the line receives on the pulleys an thy favor tobe wiped clean with an abrasive pad and somehig that cuts grease.

on the rear, next to the rear end,you have saddle clamps, probably 10mm bolts or nuts, take them off and pull the drive shaft out of your tranny.wrap electrical tape around the u-joint,so the caps wont come off.

stallion 1 is right, i don't think an S-10 has a two-piece shaft. just take it loose at the differential and slide it out of the tranny. it will only go back in the tranny one way...can't get it wrong.
