I am so sorry for your loss. Hamsters are a little mean. The bigger ones are nicer than the dwarf ones, but maybe you should try getting a rodent that is friendlier. Guinea pigs make wonderful pets and live longer. We had one that was wonderful. He loved people and he was so sweet. He never bit us or tried to be mean in any way. The average life span of a hamster is 12-18 months. Guinea pigs can live as long as 4-5 years if well cared for. GL with your decision and sorry for your loss.

The best kind of hamsters are the kind of hamster that cope with one another so they wont fight and be lonely like the Campbell's Russian hamsters there fighters so they might not be the best of choice because they are grouchy but fluffy
