Safety first! If you are going to use mineral spirits or some other such solvent, be aware they are highly flammable and the built up fumes (as they evaporate) can be explosive. A safer method is to use a citric acid type solvent as they are usually water based. Another safe method (and it's easier on the hands) is to try a vegetable oil, in fact you probably have some in the pantry. After you remove the glue with oil, cleanup the oil with dish detergent and water.

hi, appears like someone positioned self-stick tiles over the hardware flooring so we are talking about a large section and by no skill only a niche. If the glue has hardened you could properly be able to sand it off. no matter if it remains tender and sticky, you'll favor to scrape the extra off and sparkling some thing with mineral spirits. The flooring will favor to be sanded somewhat deep to get rid of the soaked in glue/mineral spirits. If all of it does not sand out then a depressing stain on the floor ought to cover and look good. in this answer, my wondering is that probably the hardwood floor lower than the tile has some positioned on on it or it does not were lined. some spots ought to have the end thoroughly worn off and the glue has gotten down into the timber......finished sanding and refinishing is needed. good luck Bob

I once faced a thick layer of black mastic glue on a concrete floor. The amount of solvent needed would have stunk up the house too much, so I got a 4' long scraper with a 6" wide blade and tore it up that way (with much effort). Keeping it sharp and getting the angle of attack just right were the keys.

I would not have done that to a wood floor.

Mineral spirits are the way to go. Make sure you are in a well ventilated area. And you will need some kind of a scraping tool.
Let the mineral spirits set for about 10-15 minutes then you should be able to scrap off. Good Luck.

Undiluted Cider Vinegar

It will take a little longer, but it is not flammable and it doesn't hurt the floor.
