i'm at my friends house and i'm tryin to get connected through his internet connection but my laptop seems to not detect the connection... all it says is 'NO CONNECTIONS DETECTED' and there's some little thing on the bottom right corner which looks like some kind of antenna or whatever and says WLAN, i don't know what that is. we've tried every single thing. with his pc and my laptop but nothing works. is there anyone that could help us work this out? :(

The question is, does it work on his laptop? If it does, it's likely he has hidden the SSID, that's the reason it may not be showing up in your network connections. Tell your friend to check his routers settings and see if that is or is not the case. If it is, write down the SSID and then you'll have to set up the network manually on your laptop. If not, then... well, it could be any number of things. I'll try to check back to see if you add details.

Maybe his router is hidden. What that means is that he has it set up so that the connection is not broadcast everywhere and anyone can see the connection. Check the settings of his wireless router.
He has to have a wireless router too, otherwise it will just not work!

Good Luck
