In Windows Explorer aka My Computer go to where you can to create the ZIP file. Right click the white space and choose New and the last option should be "Compressed (Zipped) Folder"
Drop the files in there.
Or you can use a program to do it like WinZip (you have to buy it) or my personal favorite, 7-Zip (free).

You have many many ways to zip a file... For example, Windows XP includes its own ZIP wizard. Just right-click the file you want to zip, and then go to "Send to", and then, click on "Zipped Folder". Then a wizard will appear to help you through the zipping process.
Another way is using external programs like WinAce, WinZip, 7Zip, IZarc, WinRar, etc. Most of these programs open a wizard to help you through the zipping process, but if you want to do it quick, just open the application and drag the file or files you want to zip to the program window.
