Our HP is one week old. Things have been smooth until I get a window from "Winferno Software" saying my computer is at "high risk" and it did a "Registry Error Report" and I have "502 Registry errors" Then it lists all the different errors and asks if I want to "Fix Registry Errors"

I think this happened after my wife downloaded some screensavers. Do I delete the downloaded files? Fix the Errors like it suggests?

The computer should be ok since it's so new right? Who can you trust?

If this is a Internet based window telling you this, then NO!!!!!!!!
If you have a legal copy of WINXP go to http://www.windowsupdate.microsoft.com and go through the process of downloading ALL the available security updates. Depending on the speed of your computer and internet, and the state of your software this could take a day. Do not just run it once, run it, apply, restart, repeat - until microsoft tells you it has nothing left to offer (security wise). Also make sure that Automatic updates are turned on, and preferably set to automatically install. (click start, settings, control panel, automatic updates - Automatic, set to every day). Make sure to watch the taskbar icons (near the clock) for a shield, among others. Do you have a firewall?, a virus scanner? Probably came with Mcafee or Norton. Only, ONLY trust the maker. I can tell you that I recieve similar boxes when I reformat my PC (A fresh non-updated version of WIN XP) and the ones I recieve are hackers trying to get into the system to steal or destroy whatever they can. While the window is not necessarly associated with the screensavers downloaded, I would suggest do not download any of the free screensavers. I have had to fix many friends and relatives computers after they did. Now they not do it any more, and they do not have as many problems. If you want different screensavers, go to OfficeMax, or someplace similar, they have CD's with 100's, and with 1000's of screensavers for $9.99 or less.
