i've got 03 chevy cavalier and i will be getting 17" rims soon. I don't want that much gap between tires and wheelwells.

If you get a moderate drop by changing springs, no more than 1.5 inches front and back, you will reduce wheel well gap and not sacrifice too much on ride. If lowering is not an option, go with a 50 sidewall (i.e 215/*50* R17) tire, or higher if necessary. No low pros.

Larger diameter rims. More sidewall on tire. Use black undercoating in wheel well to darken the space.

Install 'Air Shocks'. This way you can adjust the height on the fly.

Oh, don't worry - you won't. You also won't have to worry about any clearance if you have to make a sharp turn, or hit a huge pot hole. One good bang - and bam! - you'll need a fender!!
