Either WD40 on the pulley...and if that doesn't work, you probably need to tighten up one of the pulleys.

Squeaky Fan Belt Fix

Usually this just means you need to tension the belt a little more. Often by loosening the alternator and then moving it slightly to pull more on the belt - use a SMALL crowbar / similar and apply MODERATE force to get the belt tight enough that you can only deflect it about half an inch on the longest run.

Tighten the alternator / adjuster back up and try again.

ANY contact with WD40 on the belt will make it slip WORSE. As for the idea about bleach, I cannot see why that would work - I could see it flicking up into your eyes though if the engine is running. Suggest avoiding that idea.

The belt is squeaking for one of three reason,
The belt does not have proper tension
The belt is old, the rubber is hardened-belt dressing, cracked or frayed- replace.
The bearing in on of the pulley's are bad -replace bearing and belt.

Most often a person working at an auto supply store can take a look and let you know what you need.

First make sure the belt is properly tensioned. Different types of belts have different tension specs, but the typical V-belt should show about 1/2" of deflection when you press it with your thumb.

Petroleum based lubricants like WD-40 will deteriorate the rubber and the rubber to fabric bond in the belt. Silicone spray will soften and condition the belt. If the belt tension is good, you can try a shot of silicone spray.

First of all do not spray anything on a belt, esp. belt dressing. I have had to clean that junk out of pulleys before and it makes a mess. If it is a serp. belt and it is in good condition, take it off and turn it around to run the other direction. Most of the time the noise goes away.

An old day trick is to start the car and hold a bar of soap to the under side of the belt as it runs. This quiets the belt for a while until you can buy a new one.

Make sure it is the right fan belt first off. If it is correct, try some WD40 sprayed on the belt while the engine is running.

There is belt dressing available to help a noisy belt - but check to make sure it isn't glazed, or cracked. It may need replacing. It may also be the idler/pulley that's noisy.
