There is a possibility of a Black running for president in the 2008 elections. My question is: do you think, if a Black were to run, would the black community turn out 100% to vote for him just because he was black and for no other reason. I could also ask the same question if the candidate were a woman.

What prompted this question was, there have been elections in the past where candidates were elected despite having criminal charges against them and actual criminal sentences imposed. I don't know the actual names, but some were, the mayor of Philadelphia, mayor Daly of Chicago, the Governor of Alabama and Louisiana and mayor of New Orleans. The last was not convicted of any crime, but his handling of the Katrina disaster leaves a lot to be explained.

A black democrat would receive a hell of a lot more support than one w/ an R behind his/ her name.
As far as a woman, for the most part, I think that a female democratic candidate would pull in most of the democrats and few republicans, for a republican female, the reverse, most of the republican women and few dems.
Unless it's Hillary, most women that I've talked to of both parties don't like her or trust her. In a recent poll, Bill rated # 5 on likability poll, Hillary was #9. Ouch.
I don't buy into that just because one candidate is black or female that they will be automatically voted for by that group, unless the voter is a moron and doesn't take into account the rest of the candidates qualifications, or lack thereof.

Sadly I must admit that most likely a much larger amount of the black population would get out and vote. However, people still would not realize that voting for the president is not directly democratic. I saw get some legislators in Congress to rid this country of the electoral college. Be gone w/ the BS!

I think voter turnout is linked to general apathy..and I think there will always be apathy..so 100% turnout?...I doubt it. I think people look at their life...their fears and concerns..their quality of life..If things are going well ....people wont vote...If a change is perceived...more people vote. I also think people have little confidence in politicians in general, and the ability of those people to make changes. I think for things to change, a candidate would need to prove that they could make a difference, that they could actually change things...If such a candidate had a proven track record...more people would vote...regardless if the person was black or a woman.

Absolutely not. That's like saying that 100% of white people would vote for a white candidate just because he's white. The candidate would determine the demographic of his/her supporters. For example, Condaleeza Rice, who is both black AND female, would not have the same support from the black community as someone like Jesse Jackson would. The key to being a viable candidate, though, is mass appeal, not just having the support of one portion of the demographic.

No, there is a 99.99% chance that a Black president would not run in 2008. But if he or she were to run I am most certain that 95% of the Black community in the USA ( that is to include anyone who supports for the party he is in and anyone who would like to see a Black president ) would vote for him.

Yes, this is a stong possability. However at least the people had the good sense to vote out that terrible woman congress lady that punched the cop in the stomach. I am sure a few percentages would not vote for them just because they were black- but I am sure that some whites would vote for them just because they were black.

There is definitely a no to that question. Blacks are actually divided where most (who live in the ghetto) would vote for a black thinking he would erase race tensions and help lift them out of poverty and then there are those (stuck ups who forgot they came from the ghetto) that would think by voting for a black president will turn America into a ghetto. So no. Uncle Toms have been here and they are actually growing, thanx to hip hop videos!

Nope. It's also entirely possible that we could have two black candidates running for president (Obama and Rice both could win their party's nominations, should they seek them). I think you will have some who will vote for him or her just becuase of their race. Just like you'd have some whites vote for his or her opponent just becuase he or she was white. But I think the vast majority will vote for a candidate because of what that candidate promises to do for them, or even just because of that candidate's political party (it doesn't matter if they're white, black, green or violet).

Anytime a position of power is filled for the 'first time' by someone for any reason that makes it the first time for that type of person, the ppl in that category are more motivated to vote.
This applies to race, gender, religious affiliation, etc...
JFK was labeled the first catholic president. Lieberman was labeled the first Jew to run for VP. ETC,....
