They need to keep people dependent on them for votes. They love having power just for the sake of same.

I found in my out college years that the colleges are more bent on a communistic way of viewing the world. They think life should be run like school. After a few years out of college, you should begin to see that the free enterprise system is the only was to have our country ran.You are not actually voting for the VP. That position is automatic when the partner is elected. Remember, we all have rights, but the left has gone too far so that with everyone having absolute rights, we all have fewer rights. Our language is being controlled, and we have to kiss the shanks of minorities or be called racists, and make special provisions so they have children that are passed in school to the point that the majority's kids are not a well educated as they used to be.I was a democrat once, but I looked at what the parties stood for and had to change. You should let your Philosophy guide you, not a VP debate.

Please add details of YOUR self-determination & how you've owned personal responsibility for the circumstances.
I'd be willing to bet your "success" was handed to you on a silver platter. Daddy paid for your college & bought you a shiny new car, and here we go......you bravely faced the world & applied yourself to some high paying job your fancy degree paved the way for.
Then you struggled to pay for a nice apartment (which mommy & daddy furnished) and still SOMEHOW you had the determination to accept responsibility for the tires & oil changes on your FREE car.
Real responsibility is being a single parent & keeping good credit w/out child support or gov't aid.
If you can defeat adversity like this- THEN you'd have an idea what self-determination is.

Choice B - When you use self-determination to oppress, steal, kill and destroy, you're nothing but a European caveman with no world class.
Choice A -When you use self-determination and personal responsibility for the good of yourself, your neighbors, you country and mankind, you are doing the moral and right thing with first class intentions.
Who are you defending and which one do you do?

Hmm probably the same reason people like making generalizations about something they know nothing about.
They are not against it, they have the compassion to realize that sometimes people need a helping hand. The system gets abused yes, and is imperfect, but would you rather thrown everyone out into the streets who cant take care of themselves?
Oh wait Reagan did that already.

Intellectual arrogance.
You have to give them credit, they have risen to the top of their prospective fields. I think they start to feel like they make EVERY decision better than others and start to discard freedom in favor of their own analysis.
Fortunately there is diversity among ivory tower types and not all of them think this way.
