I realize that was a long time ago, but why did we let them off the hook, and remain their allies?

My cousin witnessed the Liberty as she arrived in Malta, Now "Paul Is Free" that is a real Mystery!!! They sent commandoes on board to make sure everyone was dead as well! I guess the Arabs would have taken that one Huh? You have to remember Golda was a fan of the Soviets and a real Commie lover to boot, She bent over backwards to get French Not US weapons! It is not the same Israel today but that was One Hell of a reason to tell them to go to heck back then.

Are you Islamic/atheist/Hitler's large-grandchild/some thing different as well Jew or Christian? A) We did not nuke Japan for Pearl Harbor. We declared warfare for that. We nuked Hiroshima and Nagasaki to end international warfare II. B) This replaced into for the duration of a warfare between Israel, Egypt, Jordan, and Syria. They concept the united statesLiberty replaced into the El Quseir from Egypt. yet you fly at supersonic speeds or stress an underwater craft and tell me what language is on the component to the deliver and precisely how vast that is. C) The 9/11 attackers were Saudi Arabian, Lebanese, from the United Arab Emirates, or Egyptian. All were Islamic. D) Why ought to Israel pay $13 million to the U. S. for damages in the journey that they deliberately destroyed the deliver? $13 million appears like a lot of money to pay only to cover an attack up. E) Israel claimed the U. S. authorities suggested there replaced into no ships interior the section. How were they meant to are conscious of it replaced right into a US deliver if someone informed them we had no ships interior the section? F) Islamics opt for to take over the international, not Palestine. and they hate all Jews, not only Israel.

Suppose America did retaliate. Would it not seem then that America was now on the side of Egypt, Jordan, Iraq, and Syria?

I do not think that would be what the US government would want at the time. Also, suppose that it really was an accident (as unlikely as it seems), then would it not compound the act by attacking Israel?

I think the term "being between a rock and a hard place" fits this situation well.

It WAS a long time ago June of 1967... occuring 12.5 miles off the Israeli / Egyptian coast during the height of the 6-Day War.

ISRAEL claimed it was an accident and apologized: The United States and Israel exchanged diplomatic notes after several inquiries. Israel also eventually paid nearly $13 million in humanitarian reparations to the United States and in compensation to the families of the victims.

Why did we take no action when Iran kidnapped 53 US DIPLOMATS and held them hostage for 444 days ? (for THAT matter why did the UN take no action?)

Why did we take no punitive action when North Korea attacked and kidnapped the crew of the USS Pueblo in 1968?

We NOW take much greater precautions... but I still remember being buzzed by fighters of the JDSF (Japan) when the ship I was on was operating off their coast.

A lot of people say it was a false flag operation so the US could blame it on the Egyptians.
The "conspiracy" was that the men aboard the ship were given medals in secrecy and told that if they ever spoke of the friendly fire from Israel war planes, that they would be sent to jail on treason. Moreover, apparently the Israeli pilot saw the US flag on the ship and knew it was American, but he was forced to shoot it down for about 2 hours. The people on board apparently called for help but Washington told them not to send anybody. Then the ship was dragged farther into the middle east and blamed on the Egyptians.

But the truth is, NOONE can really know unless they were actually there. It could have just been all a big misunderstanding or miscommunication on both parties. Back then, the technology of then is considered primitive now. So let's screw conspiracy theories for now until we can get actual facts.

Because it was a military intelligence ship on a secret mission, and the U.S. Navy assured Israel that there were no U.S. Ships in their area. This was during the six day war, and Israel, thinking it was an enemy ship opened fire.

Because it was an accident, there was no need for a retaliation. It was not like a Soviet ship attacking an American ship.

It seems to me that the "official" reason is that they thought it was the Soviets responsible for the attack and when they realized it was an ally, they didn't want to embarrass them.

Because the us was monitoring all communications in the theatre and providing the Arabs with important intel. if you research the USS Liberty you will find that Israel tried to minimize the casualties during this attack.
The US did not retaliate because it didn't want it's spy mission discovered.

I've heard this story and think it was one of those (forgot the word) ?? - events where we with an ally stage a false terrorist act. I think it was one of those that went bad on us. Btw, our government has actually admitted to doing this several times since WWII.

How embarrassing to be attacked by a country who is your biggest purchaser of weapons. One attack, against 40 years of arms trade...do the math.
