No and no. The first time they mess up they should be thrown in prison for 25 years, they do it again, they die.

I don't know enough about what causes paedophilia, but yes, they should be helped. Even if there is no 'cure' they can be helped to control their compulsion or not to cause harm to others through it. Anyone that commits a crime should be helped rather than simply punished, as far as possible. It just makes better sense - if you put someone in jail, they will come out some time later with likely very little change except that they've been in jail (also jails are overcrowded and cost a lot of money). But if you try to help or treat them then they may be less likely to commit another crime. This must be especially so in the case of paedophiles, because paedophilia is a compulsion, and I don't think being locked away will stop someone from being a paedophile. If someone has something they can't control - in the case of some paedophiles - it's unfair to punish them for something they more or less didn't choose to do. And treating paedophiles or trying to understand the causes of paedophilia means better knowledge of it, which is always helpful.

The definition of a pedophile is an individual over 14 years old who is attracted to a specific age group under 18 years old. They can not change who they are attracted to, in their mind there is no other choice for them. Because of this they can not be helped in changing their attractions. All they can do is be active in their choices, meaning that they have to be constantly aware of their surroundings. They have to make conscious choices that keep them away from temptation. They have to change their whole way of life so they can avoid any possible contact or temptation with their attractions.

The medical community says no. I reckon the only way they can be helped is like in AA, they have to have a total psychic/spiritual change and I reckon alot of them don't believe they can. They must either seek help or be incarcerated in my opinion. The damage they do tend to just keep going on and on...He molests one person and that person might grow up and do the same....It's gotta stop.
