Don't ever listen to narrow-minded @ssholes like the ones who answered you in the beginning.

Cartoons were originally created to entertain the masses that went to the movies before television became so popular way back in the day. The cartoon before a main feature would often contain a humorous take or satirist outlook on the current events of the day. Any and all reference to those would have gone straight over a child's head... he/she would NEVER understand it. However, the adults at the time found it humorous and entertaining before the main feature film and could relate to it.

Over the years cartoons were dumbed down because it became apparent that they could entertain children and keep them out of mom and dad's hair for a while.

It's sad really, cartoons and television have become the babysitter for many parents who just don't have or want the time to spend with their kids.

If you want to check out some cartoons that are aimed at a higher age than may I suggest anime. Even though they too can cater to children you'll find many that also cater to the more mature or adult ages... and NO I don't mean hentai ("Japanese porno cartoons" to you lesser educated and more ignorant people")

So it doesn't matter if you're 9 months or 109 years old... if you like animation in any way, shape, or form... enjoy it!!

God no - I am 26 and I am watching Spongebob at the moment (the one where SB makes a rather revolting sundae which causes bad breath and alienates him from the residents of Bikini Bottom Bay. SB thinks people are running away from him because he is ugly). I have said it before, and I will say it again, Spongebob is wasted on the youth!

Altogether now......

Ohhhhhh, who lives in a pineapple under the sea?
Spongebob Squarepants
Absorbent and yellow and porous is he
Spongebob Squarepants
If nautical nonsense be something you wish
Spongebob Squarepants
Then drop on the deck and flub like a fish
Spongebob Squarepants
Spongebob Squarepants
Spongebob Squarepants
Spongebob Squarepants
Spongebob Squareeeeeeeeeeepannnnnnnnts!

You dont have to be a certain age to watch cartoons. If you like them then there you go watch all the cartoons you want.
BTW Family Guy and any other adult swim cartoon is supposed to be watched by people who are 14+ in age they are more mature and Family Guy is hilarious and many other people like me watch it.

No, you're never too old to watch cartoons. Besides, Family Guy is geared towards a more mature audience, anyway. And some times, I think SpongeBob is, too.

I don't personally like cartoons, but I can't say that anyone is too old to enjoy them. It shows that you still have a great imagination. And besides, who cares what other people think. You don't have to stop watching cartoons just because someone else says so.

A person is never too old to watch cartoons! I'm 35 and watch Spongebob and Fairly Odd Parents with my kids (or without!) and love it!

Dude, I'm 45 and I laugh out loud, hysterically when I watch Spongebob and Patrick go through their antics! I can't believe that there are sooo many references that only adults would catch.

The episode "Squidtastic Voyage" is a prime example. This episode VERY loosely parodies the 1960's sci-fi movie "Fantastic Voyage".

Whooo! I'm typing this with a big smile on my face!!!!

When you consider Chuck Jones died at 89 and still was in the cartoon biz in one form or another. Friz was doing the same up until he died at 89 and others like Ralph Bakshi (born in 1938) and David DePatie (born in 1935) are still in the animation field; I believe it is safe to enjoy cartoons well past the golden years of your life.

If you can make them at 50 years and older, I'm sure you can watch them as well.

If your too old, so am I. I love watching cartoons. Most of the shows on Adultswim are funny as hell. The only "kiddie" cartoons I love is Spongebob and Avatar.
