There's a lot said about the Wii controls.
They can take some time to get used to, but once you are used to them, they're very easy to use and intuitive. That's not to say that's what you should get, but it's not as difficult or the sort of extreme activity that most people seem to think.
I own one, so I'm not just spweing rhetoric, either.
My gut reaction is that anyone who asks this question should probably get a 360. People who buy Wii's are Nintendo fans and people who are looking for something really different, these people don't usualy need to ask. I'll review a few main points about both and you can make up your own mind.
If you get the 360, you want the Full System, not just the $300 Core Package. The $300 package doesn't have a lot of the things that makes the 360 worth owning like the Wireless Controler, the 20 Gig HDD, The 360 Remote and the cables needed to take advantage of the 360's High Def compatability. The full package is $400. So if your issue is price, you're going to need to spend a good deal more than the Wii for it to be worth it.
The Graphical output is far better than the Wii, even without High Def. If graphics are very important to you, you don't want a Wii. Wii Graphics are only slightly better than the XBox and PS2.
The main reason to get a 360 is XBox Live. If you're keen on a good multiplayer experince, 360 is *the* way to go. Wii and PS3 may have end up with some sort of multiplay, but it will probably be limited to a few games and even if not, it probably still won't compare to XBox Live.
This is not to say the Wii is not a good system and not worth concideration. As I said, the controls are really cool. This is not a rerun of the GameCube. GameCube sales floundered almost as soon as it was released and potential developers dried up. Wii sales have been *very* strong, meaning that the Wii will be in a lot of homes, so the developers will be there to take rides on the Wii, experiment with the control system and explore the possibilitys of entirely new franchises for a largely untapped market of the loyal, die-hard gamers Nintendo fans are and maybe even take advantage of the attempt to diversify the video game market. The games are already there and will continue to be.
The Wii is also a lot of fun with a group of people. The other weekend I brought mine over to my brother's place and some friends came over. We had a few drinks and a really good time that we hadn't had in a while. We're all avid gamers, but so often playing console games with friends means a bunch of people sitting around bored watching someone else play and waiting for a turn. I had more fun watching my drunken, obnoxious friend Andy putting the beat down on other Mii's in Boxing. It's really a very cheap game and the graphics are terrible, but we didn't even notice because we were laughing so hard at his smack-talking.
If graphics aren't that important and you aren't caught up with multiplayer, the Wii offers a very new and different experince. If you were happy with your XBox or PS2 and just are looking for a newer better version of that, the Wii probably isn't for you.
If you're a Nintedo fan, you need a Wii. It's so 'Nintendo' I could scream, it is fully compatable with your GameCube games and downloadable virtual console titles of classic Nintendo games mean mean you don't have to screw around blowing into NES cartrages until you pass out trying to get your fix. So far, Virtual Console titles have been limites to Nintendo NES, SNES and N64, Sega Genisis and TurboGrafix 16 games, but third party support is possible.
It would be a damn shame if I couldn't play Chrono Trigger.
If you can afford the $400 model, probably get the 360. It's solid and you'll like it. If you were only concidering the $300 model, I really wouldn't bother. And if you're in the market for something different the Wii will not disapoint.

The Nintendo Wii. It's innovative and cheaper.
Get the Xbox 360 if you love graphics or can't wait for more games to come as its library is decent.
Age shouldn't be a factor here, like that idiot said. People over 15 can enjoy either. Heck I'm legally an adult and enjoy the Wii more than the Xbox 360.

Both systems are great in their own way. I own a 360, PS3, and a Wii, so I wont be biased. The wii has games based on group play, or games you can play with your friends. Many games are solo games, with the advantage of amazing controls. As for Wii graphics, they are slightly better than a gamecube, but then again, graphics arent what make the game, its the game play. Xbox360 is great for a variety of games, and the graphics are considered "next-gen". As for the reliability of both, the Wii has less than 1% fail rate, while the 360 has a 30% fail rate. If you go with a 360, buy an extended warrenty. Both systems will give you enjoyment for years to come.

An XBOX 360 is so much better than a Nintendo Wii. With a Nintendo Wii you have to push the buttons as well as waving the controller around. Sometimes it is hard to multitask. Therefore, XBOX 360 is better!

I would advice you to choose Wii, it's cheaper and has a better gaming experience and I assure you that you won't get bored with it. It keeps you active instead of being on a chair playing with a regular controller, you have to stand up and be part of the action. If you want reality, you want Wii . Hope you choose wise. :P
