I Had a Back operation 12 week ago. I was out for a few days when I came to and sat up just a bit I was shocked that I was in real Diapers!!! . I asked to have them removed and they did However after a problem messing the sheets on the Bed Two Nurses came in with Diapers an put me back in them I asked them not too But they paid no Mind to what I was saying. I found out that the Head nurse left orderes that I stay in diapers for 4 more days. she said if I pull them off That they have ways of straping my arms. is this normal?

Over-reaction all round. And you do seem a bit obsessed with this topic. Did you know there is a CSI episode that deals with it? Maybe last season or the season before.

It sounds too me as though you have little control over your bowels/bladder now you have had the operation and they feel it will be a few more days until you have more control.

It is sad that the nurses don't listen to you. They are probably so overworked and jaded and after a while don't see people as real whole people anymore. And they are taking orders from above and will get 'told off' if they don't follow.
They should at least take the time to talk to you about what is happening to you body right now as I am sure that you are very embarassed about being incontinent.

Are you feeling a sensation to go before you go? or do you feel nothing?

Straping for your arms sounds extreme....border line abuse. Do they think you are not of sound mind?
I hope they take the time to listen to you and talk to you.

Is there a student nurse around who you can talk too? Usually they are less synical and still care.

Good Luck, hope you get better soon.

How embarassing for you....after such a hard surgery too!! You could check with the social worker or the ethics person with the hospital that you stayed in. There sometimes are protocols for that type of thing. - I want to add that - it did mess the sheets and maybe to avoid damaging your surgery they didnt want to move you more than necessary so the "diaper" was a good idea and yes, easier for the nurses. Get feeling better!!

If you can feel the urge to use the toilet, then you shouldn't be diapered. If you are unable to leave the bed, you could ask to use a bedpan. If you have no sensations below the waist due to surgery and since it is the nurses who would have to clean up after you, please be considerate of what they have to take care of.
But, to strap your arms down because you don't want to comply is inhumane. They should at least try to talk to you and explain the situation.

Feel better

Lucky you aren't in hard restraints. You apparently can't use the 'facility's' yourself or can't tell when you are going to so this is necessary. Think of it as risk control. Do you want to soil yourself in bed only to have it get into your incision from your surgery and cause further problems or maybe even death? Wishing you a speedy recovery.

I am sure it is if they think you will mess the bed. all joking aside I have a friend who wheres them 90 % of the time and she is not a baby. you sahould be greatfull the hospital provided them for you and washed the sheets. just imagin if your family had to come in and clean you every day.

If you can't get out of bed to use the toilet, yes, it is normal. My husband broke his leg and they put him in diapers because he wasn't able to use the toilet or bedpan. It is much easier and more sanitary to have you in diapers rather than relieving yourself all over the bed.

Because you had bad surgery it could cause your bladder/bowel to react differently and be uncontrollable. Also, if you had a catheder in for a while, it could be the cause too. Just go with it and eventually it will stop.

This is NOT normal!!!!!!!!!!! I had 2 major back surgeries last yr. and on the 2nd one i had to have my lumber (lower back) fused. The first surgery i walked to the restroom and the second time they made me use a bedpan...........i don't know where you had your surgery but it sounds weird there. They encourged me to get up and walk around........i believe the 2nd day the therapist came and i had to do some walking...............good luck!!!!

Look, adult pooh cleaning is the worst of jobs. Let them keep you in diapers; it saves them so much unpleasantness and you should be more respectful of their positions.
