i know i can add my own bootscreen images to xp so that when i boot my image is on the bootscreen, but is there a way to play a short video file/wav file when xp is booting?

Sounds kinda cheesy, sure you can, why mess with your boot screen, hacking your os can only lead to one thing an non-operational os.
