I went to a clothing optional beach last weekend in Miami, Florida and I was surprised at how many minors were on the beach. Most of them seemed to be in groups with their friends. How does the law allow a 12 or 13 year old girl to be around grown naked men like that but in any other scenario it would be considered inappropriate and illegal. I am 31 years old and I was lying nude near the shore and when it turned to my right, I saw 5 teenage girls lying nearby none of them looked over 14. I felt weird because there I was totally naked on my back with my one incher there and these girls were looking over. I then took my towel, put on my flops and left to another part of the beach. Low and behold there was like 5 teens over there also, 3 boys and two girls. I felt like the beach was full of middle age or high school age kids. Why isnt this illegal? None of those girls were nude. In fact they all had on shorts or skirts. This leads me into thinking they are there to gawk. Isnt this wron

I understand what you are saying, and in a society that harshly punishes guys who act inappropriately to girls (as it should!) I can see why seeing young girls while you are at the nude beach would make you uncomfortable. And moving away was probably a good thing, although you have just as much right to enjoy the beach as they do, and shouldn't have to move.
But I also agree with "Nudie Chick". Nudity and sex are not the same thing. And if they were as young as you think they were (and it is really hard to tell sometimes) then the girls probably were pushing their personal comfort zones.
And finally I also think there is appropriate and inappropriate behavior at a nude beach (not that I'm an expert, having only been twice). I think if guys go to a nude beach they should be prepared to go nude, otherwise they look like they are there to just perv. Girls should at least go topless, if not nude, they look like they are there to just perv too.
I swim topless at home all the time, so going topless at the nude beach was fine with me. Some of the friends I went with found it hard to take off their tops, and one of the guys felt really awkward dropping his pants. But as Nudie Chick said, the sky didn't fall down, and after a while it felt great.

Why would it not be OK? Nudity in appropriate places is NOT about sex, and that's especially true at nude beaches. I truly believe that it's positive for people of all ages to see for themselves that not all nudity is sexual, and that it's OK to be naked around others in appropriate places and for appropriate reasons...and a nude beach is certainly appropriate!
As a girl just 2 years out of my teens, I can guess that the young girls you saw there may have been curious kids there for their first time, and probably feeling a mixture of shyness, curiousity and excitement...all perfectly normal at that age. I know I felt that way the first time I was at a nude beach.
After awhile, though, you come to realize that simple, non-sexual nudity is no big deal, and hopefully the girls you saw there were learning the difference...a pretty healthy and positive outcome from their day at the beach! The next time the come back they'll probably take off their tops at least, and when they realize that they sky didn't fall on them and nobody ran over and stared at them, might even get naked themselves.
Nude beaches can really advance a person's body image in a healthy way, overcome shyness and false modesty, get rid of foolish guilt about letting your "private" parts be seen by others, and bring about the realization that nudity is just bare skin...and we all have it!
Bottom line: nudity is nearly always sensual, but frequently not sexual...and it's healthy and helpful to know and respect that difference.

IF clothing optional facilities are open to the public then ANYONE can go there regardless of age unless there is posted somewehre that they are not allowed in that area. There are many clothing optional facilities across the US and worldwide. If you aer uncomfortable with the younger poeple, the best solution is to find a place that is adults only. People need to learn to separate nudity from sexuality as the one doesn't imply, infer or have any real realtion to the other accept in the mind of the one observing.
As for the legality...such things shouldn't be legislated. That is a moral issue rather than a legal one and moral issues shoul NOT be legislated in any way, shape or form.

Just because there are minors or porn available to look at somewhere doesn't mean you should.This is where they separate the men from the boys or the size of their toys.There's also the saying: Don't go there. I was in Chicago and there was an art festival of different famous photos.One I believe was from France(?) which had the largest number of nude sunbathers in one photograph.Many appeared to be minors.Again I have to say; Don't go there especially since it bothers you.Aren't you glad it wasn't Cambodia? There have been other news stories about this for years.Many of these kids grew up around it and maybe it's normal for them to be nude. Welcome to the real nude world. Feel free to add it to the list of wrongs anyway. Most likely they enjoy making other people feel uncomfortable because they can.I would imagine than that the perverts would stand out in the crowd and these kids might just do this to flush them out.I wouldn't go there either.After seeing the movie Schindler's List it was enough to keep me away from normal beaches for awhile.

Why can't Americans separate nudity & sex?
Of course there's no reason for someone of any age from visiting a nude beach. Your question says more about your own hang-ups rather than those of the girls on the beach.
As you say yourself, it was a clothes optional beach, so why shouldn't they wear shorts or skirts if they want to?

Clothing optional places aren't about sex, which is why it is ok for minors to be there. Nudity in itself isn't pornographic or sexual, it's what you DO while naked that makes all the difference.

if the law says it's okay to be nude, then do it if your comfortable. we are all born naked and are all naked under our clothes.
